Today is another very sad day for those of us still on planet earth. Chip, Lindsay’s constant companion, the apple of her eye, has been called to dog-heaven after 15 joyful years. As you know, during her whole life Lindsay was a great lover of all animals, big and small, from fish to puppies, koalas to horses, and even giraffes, and every size in between, including a dog, a cat, a bird, and a fish that she cared for personally along the way.
Let me share with you her letter to entice us to get a dog for her at age 10 to call her own.
July 13, 1997
As you know I want a dog. If you would let me try Debbie (Kay’s dog) for a few days to see if I like her, Kay’s mom said it’s okay. I am willing to go to great limits for a dog. I am also willing to split 3/4 the cost of Dog Food per month and other supplies. If there is anything I can do to show that I am responsible enough, let me know.
Chip was born on July 21, 1997. He arrived at the Rawot household in early August, 1997. I wonder to this day why she only agreed to pick up 3/4 of the food and other supplies…did she want to be sure her parents had some skin in the game too? Or is that the limit of her allowance at the age of 10? In any case Chip received 100% of her love and attention. We had dog birthday parties, dog Christmas presents which he unwrapped himself, long walks in the park, and slumber parties with Chip in the sleeping bag too. Too many memories to enumerate them all.
He is remembered fondly. And those memories are wrapped around those of Lindsay too. We love you both and miss you dreadfully.
